Men's Downhill Odds Shaken Up After Second Practice

The Men’s Downhill is one of the most exciting Alpine events at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, and – at both Bovada and BetOnline – there’s been some movement atop the betting boards. Due to some surprising finishes, the Olympic Men’s Downhill odds have been shaken up after the athletes’ second practice runs.

Before they first took to the new slopes at the Jeongseon Alpine Center, the betting favorite to win the Men’s Downhill was Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway, who was posting +250 odds at Bovada, with countryman Kjetil Jansrud at +350 and Switzerland’s Beat Futz at +600. Interestingly, defending Olympic champion Matthias Mayer of Austria was a bit back of the pack at +1200.

However, after their second practice session, Feuz has overtaken Svindal as the favorite at Bovada, with +300 odds. (At Bet365, Lansrud is tied with Feuz for first at those same odds.) Meanwhile, Svindal dropped on both sportsbooks’ boards to +350, putting him in second at Bovada and third at BetOnline. Mayer, who already owns a 2014 Gold medal in the Downhill, improved his odds to +850 (Bovada) and +900 (Bet365), but the day’s biggest improvement came from longshot Christof Innerhofer of Italy, who increased his odds from a middling +3000 or so to just +850 (+1100 at Bet365) after coming in first in the second warm-up.

If you’re looking for an olympic betting odds edge in the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Men’s Downhill, you may want to wait until tomorrow, when the competitors will complete their third and final training circuit. Still, there’s a good chance that, by waiting, you might lose out on otherwise attractive odds on event favorites at the top of the boards. Remember, these races are close, with mere tenths of a second often separating Gold from Bronze. Any of the top guys could easily take it. And so could any number of longer shots.
