Olympic Moguls Are Freaking Crazy
I’ve known this for a long time: Olympic Moguls are freaking crazy. Seriously, just look at one of these events and you’ll see what I mean. Even the perfect run is cringe-worthy and painful to watch, as these guys and gals turn their bodies into violent pistons ramming up and down and side to side as they zip down a slope peppered with mounds designed to blow out the average mortal’s spine. Or colon.
Or, in the case of Canadian Philippe Marquis, his knee. And not only did Marquis blow out his knee on a similar course just one month ago in Utah, he actually tore his ACL! Of course, he’s a Moguls racer, and like I said, Moguls are freaking crazy. So crazy that Marquis is competing in the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics anyways. And so crazy, in fact, that he actually qualified for the event’s Final (Monday, February 12) by placing 8th in the qualifiers.
Still, Marquis’s Cinderella (or Floyd Landis) Story won’t likely end with a podium spot, as he’s still a dramatic underdog at Bovada (+2800) and Bet365 (+3300). Meanwhile, his countryman Mikael Kingsbury's olympic betting odds remain the overwhelming favorite at -300 and -334 at the above books, respectively. In any case, Marquis’ ability to perform at a high level despite a literally crippling injury is inspiring. And if it inspires you to wager on him to win the Olympic Moguls Final next week, all the better. Just remember to wrap your knees before you watch his run. Sympathy pains are real, folks.
